In my experience, one does not go to the ER with any expectation of getting in and out quickly.  A typical "fast" ER visit in the Sacramento area is around 4 hours and many take 8-12 hours.  So I'd like to get this taken care of so it can start healing but I'm a bit reluctant to go as it's already 6 pm and I don't want to be there until midnight.  Shannon's mom calls over to the ER and asks if they are busy.  They say they are moderately busy.  I'm hesitant but finally concede and take myself over there.  This is their version of a "mildly busy" ER waiting room.

I guess there are people that actually find that exciting. I am not one of those people but I'm glad they exist. She gives me a lidocaine shot to numb the finger and then lances it with a scalpel. But she is disappointed as there is not much to drain. It wasn't for a lack of trying. She dug around in my finger with some "poking" tool which wasn't the most pleasant thing I've ever experienced. Once finished, she taped it up, gave me some supplies to care for the wound, and sent me on my way in less than an hour. This was the fastest ER visit I've ever had.
